Day 2: The Middle

After soaking in the sunshine and views from Top of the Rock, Lynn split off the group to pick up Macy who qualified for the regional track meet in the four hundred (yay Macy!). The rest of us crossed town to board the boat for our three hour tour.  In the planning stages, three hours without shopping, eating or doing something uniquely New York seemed like a lot of time.  After thousands of stairs, seeing the huge Spring Break crowds, and a couple of hikes, three hours sitting on a boat sounded divine!

Waiting for the boat, Jackson had his first authentic taste of New York--a hot dog!  From the boat, we caught our first glimpse of the Statue of Liberty and World Trade Center, couldn't have gotten closer to the Brooklyn Bridge, and saw Yankee Stadium among hundreds of other New York landmarks.  There was even time for reading a good book and taking a good nap.

From the dock, we took probably our best ride in New York.  We had a New York City bus practically to ourselves.  A great way to use our MetroCards since we were quickly becoming disillusioned with the subway!  The bus quickly took us to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Sorry to those of you who had to walk forty blocks to get there!

Jackson was ecstatic with the knight exhibit.  He literally ricocheted from case to case saying, "Look at dis knight, Look at dis knight!"  The real armor, shields, and weapons were right up his alley.  The real Monets, Manets, et cetera not so much.

After our afternoon at the Met, part of the group headed back to the hotel.  I was beginning to see the writing on the wall.  If we were going to get in everything on Jackson's to do list, we were going to have to take advantage of every possible (New York) minute.  We backtracked to Rockefeller Center for shopping at the Lego Store.  Knowing we didn't have time that morning, I was relieved he hadn't spotted it sooner.  After an hour or so of shopping, we returned to the hotel for a relaxing supper in the room--New York pizza.

Day 2: The Beginning

Day 2 began with yet another walk from our hotel.  This time, we headed to Rockefeller Center where we quickly made a few laps around the ice rink.  From there, it was up to the Top of the Rock for breathtaking views of the city.
