Memorable Museums

I [Meredith] wanted to create a post so that everyone could chime in without having to create an entire post alone (because we all know how much Macy hates doing anything alone :D)... So let's all pitch in snapshot thoughts about other museums we have visited! Comment on this post, or, if you want more space, create a new one!!

Since I am a Fightin' Texas Aggie I'll share about the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum on the Texas A&M Campus. I have visited the museum a couple of times; the first was with my family, and the second with the Harmony FFA. With my family I remember the virtual parachute trip and the puzzle Macy bought that we put together over and over and over. We also took pictures outside the museum by the statue of horses. Otherwise I don't remember a whole lot about the trip; however, the ag trip was just last year. We were killing time while the other teams where participating in their state contest so we had plenty of time to look around.

The feature exhibit at that time was The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection and First Ladies Red Dress Collection. There were beautiful red dresses of all types that had been worn by past first ladies and other famous ladies.
We also had fun testing out the Oval Office and President Bush's Laurel Office at Camp David.

Finally, we spent a lot of time in the really comfortable chairs in the Situation Room, where really important decisions are made at the White House.
Overall, I really enjoyed my trip to the George Bush Library and Museum and can't wait to visit the Metropolitan Museum and American Museum of Natural History in N.Y.C.!

Now it's your turn! Comment on this blog and tell about a memorable museum visit you have had!

  1. I wish I could remember more about the Johnson Library that I visited as a ?Senior in highschool. I think I remember seeing the White House china and then just lots of pictures of President Johnson and Lady Bird. We also visited a museum on the way to Washington D.C. - a president's home...can't remember who and I think only Kristin and I saw it...very foggy memory! I do remember the Holocaust museum in D.C., very sad...and then I remember seeing one of the Jewish people that lived it because I noticed the number on his arm. He was sitting by one of the exhibits.
    Good post, Meredith!

  2. Many of the trips I went on with Mother, we spent our days in museums. I heart museums and can't wait to visit the New York City museums! Off the top of my head, I remember visiting The Texas Institute of Culture and a really cool museum in Milwaukee that I can't remember the name. My favorite museum we visited was the Chicago Historical Society. I returned to my eighth grade class and presented a whole (nerdy) presentation. With pictures. You will appreciate that my LEAST favorite museum was the LBJ library at "TU." I enjoyed the Truman library in Kansas, the Bush library, and the Carter center. I hope to someday visit the Clinton library and the George W. Bush library. Another couple of favorites are the art museums in Fort Worth that I visited when I was a senior in college. I hope to return to the Dallas Museum of Art. These days, I'm heavily into Childrens' Museums. Jackson loves history too. This weekend, we went to the Alamo. Museums I hope to visit in the future include The Smithsonian and British and Egyptian museums. I have never been to a holocaust museum and would like to go. This doesn't even count residences turned into museums. My favorite local museum is the East Texas Oil Museum.

  3. Wow, favorite museums?? There are many. I guess my all time favorite would be the Smithsonian. I spent 8 days in Washington, D.C. and Williamsburg, Va. as a sponsor on a FHA trip. I have to admit that I finally grew tired of museums that week! I remember seeing the Hope Diamond, the ruby slippers, Egyptian mummies, and an accupuncture exhibit (yes, I nearly passed out!) We visited the homes of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, the Museum of Natural History, the Air and Space Museum, Ford's Theater and many other interesting places. The entire area of Colonial Williamsburg is a living museum. I enjoyed watching craftsman make candles, brooms, rifles, split logs to build a cabin, etc.

Probably my least favorite museum is the children's holocaust museum because it was so heartbreaking to experience the history through the voice of a child.

I love the Institute of Texas Culture in San Antonio, the traveling exhibit of the inaugural dresses of the first ladies, and the Bush Library at TAMU.

Museums that I want to visit include the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and Washington on the Brazos.
