Welcome
This is the story of our family's trip to New York City, the planning, preparing, and traveling. The occasion? Our mother's, otherwise known as MawMaw's, eightieth birthday. Why a trip? There has been some minor scoffing at my choice of destinations. The first reason I suggested a trip instead of a party was some of my favorite childhood memories come from time spent on family vacations. Sometimes, family vacations were all about business; mother and I would spend the day visiting museums or shopping endlessly while Daddy attended meetings, or we would drive hundreds of miles through corn fields to buy cattle in the midwest. Other times, we would load up the car, usually when the weather got too hot or dry to bale hay, possibly with a cousin, friend, niece, or nephew in tow, and set off down the highway with only the loosest of plans.
